Drug discovery and development from natural products and traditional medicines. Presently active in the areas of inflammation (TNF-α, IL-1β), life style diseases (obesity, hyperlipidemia and diabetes), protozoal diseases (leishmaniasis), viral infections (HIV) and microbicides for drug discovery and development. His group also works for NCEs' generation, standardisation of Ayurvedic single and polyherbal drugs, development and validation of analytical methods for medicinal plants and formulations. Bioprospecting of hot spot biodiversity of northeast india for NCEs generation.

Earlier worked on projects of development of  immunostimulants, antidiabetic and gynaecological agents, chemical processing technologies for natural products; development and validation of analytical methods for medicinal plants and formulations; agrotechnology of  natural products.

Use of X-ray crystallographic data to understand key protein inhibitor binding interactions and to propose structural modifications to compounds to achieve defined medicinal chemistry objectives.

Exploitation of chemical biology technologies to explore the proteome and identification of therapeutic targets to enable drug discovery campaigns.

Generation and use pharmacophore models based on known inhibitors to identify new leads.

Generation of calculated physicochemical parameters (e.g. Log P; mol wt.; etc ) of the leads for all proposed targets as an aid to medicinal chemists.

Building SAR models.

Generation and use of homology models to understand key protein inhibitor binding interactions, rationalize key isoform selectivity data, and to propose structural modifications.

Use Pipeline Pilot software to establish set of web based electronic tools for data analysis and manipulation.

Identification, evaluation, purchase and installation of software and hardware as required to achieve above in a timely manner and within budget.

Development of ontology models in semantic integration of drug discovery.
